Tish’a B’av
Tish’a B’Av that falls on Shabbat represents its own unique challenges. Please note the modified schedule as well as the explanations and Halachot therein.
Shabbat 8/6/22 6:00PM - Mincha (Note earlier time) Normally the pre-fast meal consists of a piece of bread and one cooked item (usually an egg). Many have the practice to add ashes to their food. On Shabbos one eats modest Seudah Shlishit and not the usual mournful meal.
8:04PM - Fast Begins The prohibition of fasting on Shabbos is only if it is the entire day.
8:44PM - Shabbat Ends - Recite - Baruch Hamavdil bein Kodesh L’chol One may not prepare on Shabbos for after. Therefore one may not bring non-leather shoes to shul on Shabbos. The shoes should be left in shul on Friday afternoon or donned at home after reciting Baruch Hamavdil then you may do any work necessary to get to shul.
9:00PM - Maariv and Eicha On Saturday night, we will recite only Boreh Meorei Haeish.
Sunday 8/7/22 8:30AM - Shacharit (No Tallit or Tefillin) and Kinnot (with explanations)
1:30PM - Mincha Gedola with Tefillin and Tallit or 7:30PM - Mincha Ketana with Tefillin and Tallit
8:25PM - Maariv
8:43PM - Havdalah (Hagafen + Hamavdil) and Fast Ends Havdala is recited once the fast is over and consists of only HaGafen (or Shehakol if you’re using beer or juice) and the blessing of Hamavdil Bein Kodesh Lechol. Ideally, one should give the grape juice to a child below Bar Mitzvah as the prohibition of the nine days continue.
