Message from the President

As Yom Kippur approaches, I humbly ask each of you for mechilla—forgiveness—on behalf of myself, the board and the ritual committee. This past year has been marked by significant challenges and tragedies for the Jewish people and the state of Israel. Together, we have the opportunity to support our community through teshuva (repentance), tefillah (prayer), and tzedakah (charity).

Teshuva, often translated as "repentance," is about so much more than just apologizing for past mistakes. In its truest sense, teshuva means "return" - a return to our authentic selves, to the values that guide us, and to our relationship with Hashem. It’s an opportunity to reflect, renew, and deepen our connections.

Tefillah is another powerful way to connect, both spiritually and communally. When we come together in prayer, we strengthen our bond with Hashem and with each other, creating a space to praise, ask, and express gratitude. We invite you to join us for weekly services as we gather in our shul, uplifting one another and engaging in meaningful tefillah. In these shared moments, we find comfort, inspiration, and a renewed sense of purpose.

Tzedakah is yet another essential component of our tradition, enabling us to give back and support those in need. If you have not yet done so, please consider contributing to our Kol Nidre Appeal. Your generosity will help sustain our community and allow us to continue our shared mission of support and outreach.

May this time of reflection and renewal bring peace, healing, and hope to each of us.

Upcoming Programs

Youth Announcements

The Youth Committee is pleased to announce that we will be hiring babysitters to provide supervision for our younger children on Yom Kippur. A complete schedule of the exact dates and times for babysitting can be found below. To ensure the safety of the children, as well as the protection of the Shul's property, we ask that parents ensure that children are not in the rooms upstairs at times when no babysitter is on duty. Please note the following with respect to babysitting: 
1) While the babysitters will hopefully engage and play with the children, the babysitters will not be running formal group activities. The babysitter's primary roles will be to ensure the safety of the children in the rooms and the protection of the Shul's property. Children who are too young to be left alone without constant close supervision should not be left alone upstairs with the babysitters. If you would not feel comfortable with leaving your child alone in groups on Shabbat morning. you should not send your child to babysitting. 
2) The babysitters will not be forcing children to stay in the rooms and they will most likely not take them to the bathrooms. As the babysitters will not know the children, please check in on your children regularly while they are in groups with the babysitters. 
3) The babysitters will provide water, oreos and pretzels. If you would like, you can send your children with other snacks (nut free please), but please ask them not to share snacks with others.

The Mikveh will be open for men on Erev Yom Kippur 10/11 from 5 am-11 am. Men must bring their own towels and enter the premises by 10:45 am. No appointment is needed. Donations are appreciated and may be made at the Mikveh or online at:

If you want an announcement included in the weekly email, you must send it in an editable format (no pdf's) to announcements@yiplainview.org no later than the Tueday prior to the Shabbat on which you want the announcement to appear. Community announcements will not ordinarily be made on Shabbat morning, but will be included in the email.
