The OU SPIRIT Initiative and YIP present: Kristalnacht Holocaust Commemoration - 11am
SPIRIT is an initiative from the OU in partnership with many communities across the country (including YIP) to bring great virtual programs every week. Please look in our weekly announcements each week for new programs.
SPIRIT – Stimulating Program Initiative for *Retirees that Inspire Thought
For Retirees, Empty Nesters, Sandwich Generation Parents & Senior (and anyone else interested)
This week's program:
In commemoration of Kristalnacht, the night of broken glass, 82 years ago, the SPIRIT program is honored to hear from several children of survivors who will tell their parents’ stories. As Elie Weisel, Nobel Prize Winner and a survivor of Auschwitz said: “To hear a witness is to become a witness.”
Part I:
Eva Moreimi grew up in Czechoslovakia as an only child to two Holocaust survivor parents. Shortly after graduating from Economic School, she escaped from the Communist regime and immigrated to the United States. She lives in Minneapolis with her husband close to their three children and six grandchildren. Eva is the author of Hidden Recipes, A Holocaust Memoir which tells the story of her family’s will and determination, and their struggles to survive.
Deborah Leonard was born in a Displaced Persons Camp in Germany in the aftermath of World War II. She came to the US as a young child in October, 1951 and grew up on the north side of Chicago. She attended the University of Illinois where she earned a B.A. and M. A. and where she taught for several years before transitioning to corporate America in sales, marketing and product development.
