YIP Youth

Here at the Young Israel of Plainview we have a vibrant youth department, filled with educational and exciting programs. The mainstay of our programming is our weekly Shabbat morning groups that cater to children of all ages. Groups begin at 10:00am and conclude with the tefillah services in the main sanctuary. All our groups are staffed by several teenage group leaders and are supervised by our youth directors. Groups typically incorporate tefillah, parsha, stories, games, and snacks allowing our children to learn, daven, and grow while having fun. We strive to create an environment that encourages our children to look forward to groups each week. We also have a fantastic Tot Shabbat program for parents and toddlers run by a rotation of parent volunteers. In addition to our Shabbat programming we have a whole host of other events for holidays and just for fun. We have themed holiday events, Friday night Shabbat meals, Saturday night learning, and various trips. Our recent excursions to places like bounce, laser tag, and escape the room all help foster a sense of community within our youth that reflects the tight knit character of our shul as a whole. Another highlight of our programming is our spring and summertime Shabbat afternoon games where children and parents congregate, run around, play, and enjoy snacks and ices in our beautiful parks. Lastly, in an effort to continually improve and build upon past success we are constantly in search of new ideas, and to that end we are always open to suggestions and feedback.

Leading our vibrant youth department are Eitan and Jessica Bedziner. Eitan served as a counselor at NCSY Camp sports for a number of years as well as a head chapter advisor for NCSY in Oceanside, New York. He has a Bachelor's degree in Applied Mathematics and is on track to becoming an actuary. He has years of experience working with children of all ages, and is looking forward to serving as the youth director of Plainview. Jessica has spent a number of years working with children and adolescents. She worked as an assistant morah in a daycare, and worked as an intern and ran groups at elementary and middle schools. Jessica has her Masters in school and community psychology and is currently pursuing her doctorate at Hofstra University. The two of them are ecstatic to join the Plainview community!
